I've got the sun in the morning and the moon at night

The sky is once again blue over Christchurch. For the past couple of days it's been drearily overcast and dark clouds hovered ominously.

I haven't been in the mood to blog but I thought it was about time. I suppose I owe my 5 or so readers a run down of what I've been doing. If not, they start pestering me on facebook (I'm looking at you Palmarin).

I spend lots of time in the library. Where apparently, the weirdos of Christchurch converge. I don't blame them since it really is a nice place to spend your day, amongst free books and cozy couches. I've heard there are no homeless people in Christchurch, that very well might be true but I've seen lots hobo types perusing comic books and snoozing between the stacks. Marc likes the library because he can ogle all the cute (in his opinion) Asian girls there.

I've had a life-long love for mysteries of the Holmes persuasion. And while their mysteries/adventure section is a bit lacking in Christie novels, I discovered a sufficient replacement in Russian author Boris Akunin and his creation Erast Fandorin. In Russia, Akunin is said to rival JK Rowling in popularity.

Anyway, as I mentioned Christchurch Library also has a nice collection of comic books. I've just had the pleasure of reading some issues of Fables and Y: The Last Man. The problem with comic book reading though is that the first issue is always missing. Sigh. I'll get lucky one of these days, I'm sure. I wonder if they have Scott Pilgrim?

My only nitpick with the library is that the books aren't arranged in the Dewey Decimal System that I'm accustomed to. So it's a tad bit harder to find exactly what I'm looking for.

Just this second I received an email from my boss telling me to resign since I won't be home until March. She says they have to fill the vacancy I left. Fair enough, really.

But good luck with that. And I don't mean that my shoes are hard to fill (I have very tiny feet). But I doubt any new recruit would last very long. And besides, they're in perpetual need of people who aren't idiots.

Last thing. Since summer has descended down under, I've discovered not only Kiwis/Aussies' penchant for short shorts, but also their love for walking around barefoot. It's amazing and kinda gross at the same time. There is bird poop and broken bottle shards all over the city's sidewalks and yet they cheerfully doff their slippers and walk around with dirty feet just because it's warm outside. I totally don't get it. There is definitely a cultural divide somewhere because I've never seen an Asian person here in Chch do it yet. And I hope I never will.
