Conversations like the following with my mom have become increasingly common:
(We're in a hospital)
Mom: Where's the bathroom?
Kristine: When you go through those doors, turn left then go straight.
Mom: Are they where the old bathrooms used to be?
Kristine: I don't know where the old bathrooms were. Basta, turn left then straight ahead.
Mom: They were near the elevators.
Kristine: It's just past the elevators. Straight ahead.
Mom: Okay.
(few minutes later)
Mom: I couldn't find them!!!
Kristine: But they're right there. Turn left and go straight.
Mom: Left? I turned right.
Kristine: After I said to turn left?
Mom: That's where the old bathrooms were. Near the elevators.
Kristine: After you asked me where they were, you followed your own advice anyway.
Mom: But that's where they used to be.
Kristine: But that's not where they are any more!!! * sigh *
It's like we're doing "Who's on First", but infinitely more frustrating.

My Favorite Things #3: Shirtless Tennis Players
Since the US Open is ongoing (although my favorite Russian, Dmitry Tursunov was defeated by fellow Russian Davydenko) and I had the sudden realization that my blog doesn't have enough man candy in it, I thought I'd bring to you one of my favorite things: shirtless tennis players.
My mom will attest that I yell "Take yer shirt off!" at the tv during tennis matches, particularly during the change-overs.
Of course his awesome abs aren't the only reason why Tursunov is one of my favorite players. It's just a bonus he has the best six-pack on the ATP tour, and anyone who disagrees with me is clearly blind and has no taste, just like the people who prefer Nadal over Federer...but I digress.
Anyway, ATP just put out a calendar with lots of shirtless players. They kindly gave us a preview here.
Oh look! A screencap!

Why hello there! *whistles like a construction worker*
They have a slideshow and behind the scenes video of the calendar. I was somewhat disappointed I couldn't successfully make it my wallpaper. BUT! The people at charmants.com (which I gather is a gay site), made screencaps of the video! So thoughtful... They also have a link to more shirtless tennis players. Truly people after my own heart.

I just got a new laptop, bought from my own blood, sweat and tears (applause). So now I'm ripping my CDs so I can bring with me the whole kit and caboodle when I go off to places unknown.
I've postponed this chore until 1) we got internet at home and 2) I absolutely had to. I'm not transferring every CD I own of course. I'm picking my way through my collection and I honestly thought I had more discs than I thought I did. Of course I pretty much stopped buying them around 2000. Shameful, really. I just ripped Gene's third album "Drawn to the Deep End", and it's a very prettily packaged record. Photography's great and paper feels nice in my hands. It's too bad those days are almost gone.
Anyway, my ripping was going about well until I put in Hilera. Windows Media told me it was not Hilera, but Typecast instead. Hmm... I'm awfully sure Typecast has never (and will never) defile my computer. So I had to manually put in the information. Marc says it's a microsoft foul up, but I think the record company is to blame.
I just realized how terribly embarrassing this last.fm widget I have on my right panel is. I played Mariah Carey's "I'll be Loving You Long Time" non-stop for an hour on repeat little realizing last.fm was "scrobbling" that to everyone who read my blog. It may have gone unnoticed until I pointed it out right now. Damn. Well, I love Mariah and that's all there is to it.
